FOR THE FIRST TIME IN NEARLY 10 YEARS...
DR. KEVIN MILLET WILL BE TEACHING OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES! He had to have his arm twisted but he is now planning to spend many of the next twelve months revisiting many his favorite places and favorite people while providing instruction in his most favorite topic--the art of healing.
Registration is now open for seminars in Melbourne, Australia, Bangkok, Thailand, and Barcelona, Spain. Our director will be introducing TBM's new format for mastering the art of healing. See below for all the details. |

ANNOUNCING OUR PRACTICUM SERIES OF COURSES
These hands-on-focused courses, collectively, will cover the entire TBM core curriculum in four installments. With the completion of "The Big Book" and the Online Training Courses the complete Total Body Modification system of healing is available at a turn of the page and the click of a mouse, however we all know that hands-on guidance is something those mediums can't provide. To remedy that Dr. Millet created the TBM Practicums.
PRACTICUMS The Practicum will bypass the lengthy explanations of what TBM is, its history, the development of each of its myriads of techniques, and other materials that are easily obtained through written and recorded mediums. Instead, these fast-paced courses are chock full of demonstrations, workshopping, and Q&As.
This format alleviates much of the travel expenses and time-away from family which was required with the prior course formats which took 8 to 12 seminars to complete.
FOUR PRACTICUMS (REALLY FIVE) The Basic Exams & Autonomic Recovery Program, Complete Emotional Healing, Pathophysiology, and Profound Origins make up the suite of practicums TBM now offers. Ok there is a fifth but it is simply remaining the way it always has been. We are referring the Art of Adjusting course which will continue to be a separate course.
COME JOIN US! While we plan to announce dates shortly in No. America, we invite everyone to consider joining one or more of the courses in Spain, Australia, and Thailand. These locations are magical, the locals amazing, and the training will be invaluable.
If you live in any of these areas we invite you to join and help us spread the word to your colleagues. Forward them this newsletter and personally scroll down the page, or if you're impatient simply click below for more details about these exciting events in exciting locations.

Introduction to TBM with Dr. Kevin Millet
We get requests now and then for explanations of TBM, to both be viewed and shared. To that end we have created a new page on our website with a compilation of videos with Dr. Millet. Collectively there is over 2 and 1/2 hours of viewing and listening. They were recorded as early as 2012 and as recently as 2023. Enjoy!

NEWS & ARTICLES YOU MIGHT ENJOY
We generally list BOTH popular press articles and scientific papers. We realize that the latter can be intimidating. A good approach is to first read the ABSTRACT, then the INTRODUCTION, followed by DISCUSSION, then MATERIALS/METHODS and RESULTS, if so inclined. LOOK UP WORDS YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH. Your understanding of physiology and your ability to effectively wield TBM - which is APPLIED PHYSIOLOGY - will grow by leaps and bounds. |

Questioning Elimination Diets (part 4): Tobacco
Years ago a question arose in my mind, "Can we personally thrive within the West and also maintain its achievements while discontinuing many of its early dietary and social practices? Could we abandon meat-eating, smoking, beer, wine, and spirits, dairy, wheat, and others that have become unfashionable and thrive?" This is not just germane to those of us living in Europe, America, and Australia but also anywhere where capitalism, industrialism, high tech, objective science, and other western practices have been implemented. In other words, everywhere.
The more I sat with this question and dug for answers, the more I came to the conclusion that we likely couldn't. I ask that you at least be open to this possibility, in spite of any justifications for your opinions, and be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
If you didn't catch my earlier blogs on this ongoing topic, you can access them with these links. Part One: Introduction Part Two: Dairy Part Three: Wheat
While preparing The Big Book of TBM I spent the better part of a year researching each vial in the TBM library. This was a profound learning experience for me, both about the TBM vials themselves and also about the hundreds of noxious toxins, pathogens, and allergens we are all confronted with.
MUSHROOMS, PETROL, & SMOKE. OH MY! There were three categories that stood out which were surprisingly harmful to human physiology: mushrooms, petroleum products, and smoke. I came away with a desire to do all I could to avoid all three of them. I currently limit my intake of mushrooms to white buttons which have been commercially produced. I wear gloves while pumping gas and walk away from the pumps to avoid the vapors while my car fills up. I live 6 hours away from my children and grandchildren to breathe air that is virtually clear of automotive exhaust. My kitchen is nearly plastic-free. I keep cooking oils below smoke points, avoid campfire smoke, as well as tobacco and cannabis.
Smoked meats, however, have been in the human diet for thousands of years and our palate is attuned to them (there's a reason our taste buds are attuned to specific flavors). Additionally, smoking tobacco rapidly spread after first being introduced in Portugal following its discovery in the New World.
I have no desire to age more rapidly nor smell any worse than I already do. Neither do I wish to spend the final years of my life with emphysema, experiencing oral or lung cancer, or heart disease. I cannot say though that there aren't some very critical benefits to smoking tobacco. These benefits, in my opinion, are why it spread across the globe and continues to be used to such a high degree in spite of the awareness of the adverse effects I mentioned above. In one of the papers above in Tobacco (Nicotine) section of News & Articles, it is pointed out that the majority of those who are fully informed of tobacco's adverse consequences do not wish to quit!
TAKE NOTE OF LONG-LASTING, UNIVERSALLY ADOPTED PRACTICES It is my operational hypothesis that any practice which is universally adopted and maintained for at least a century confers a crucial survival value in spite of any reasons one might have to think the contrary. What I haven't known, until recently, is why tobacco falls into that group. I think the answer lies in its neuroprotective and cognitive-enhancing properties (see a small sampling of papers touting these benefits above).
This is of particular interest to me with having recently buried my Alzheimer's-burdened mother. But it should interest all of us as it is well known that we are in the midst of a tsunami of neurogenerative conditions. More and more, as well as younger and younger, individuals are being stricken with dementias, Parkinson's diseases, motor neuron disorders, and, even more recently, prion conditions. Maintaining neural integrity should be a high priority of every human on earth!
LOSING THE GOOD IN PURSUIT OF THE PERFECT I'd also like to point out that the rise of neurodegenerative conditions is eerily parallel to the war on tobacco. Not to mention that with the recent embracing of cannabis, too many are substituting a practice which sharpens and preserves the mind and increases decisive action for one which dulls it and makes us docile.
Most of mankind's use of tobacco has been the Nicotiana rustica varietal. First domesticated in the Andes Mountains roughly 7,000 years ago, it made its way up to North America about 3,000 years ago. It is harsher than todays cultivated variety, Nicotiana tabacum, and contains 300-900% more nicotine. This means that adequate nicotine intake could be achieved with much less smoke exposure. Native Americans mixed N. rustica with herbs, known as kinnickinnick, to temper its harshness.
DR. FRANK WAS A SMOKER As many of you know, our founder Victor L. Frank was, more or less, a lifelong smoker (this is the reason we have a specific protocol for smokers and those who have been exposed in other ways, click here to read it in The Big Book of TBM). He spent the majority of the final decade of his life on oxygen in a motorized wheelchair. He also had chronically debilitating headaches due to his inability to expel carbon dioxide. He eventually died of emphysema at the age of 79. Would he have been better off without tobacco? Smoking brought him a lot of pleasure. He was an amazing innovator, organizer, and promoter. Could have he done those things to the level he did without the neuroprotective effects and cognitive boost from nicotine?
I have my mother's physiological tendencies. I am at risk of developing Alzheimer's. I can't ever imagine I will become a smoker but if I felt that all of the other things that I am doing to preserve my cognitive capacity was going to be inadequate without adding tobacco, I think I would.
I encourage each of us to think long and hard about discontinuing any long-held societal practice, particularly before recommending our clients do so. Traditions are experiments that worked. I think we'd all do well to always keep that in mind.

Stress & Your Body Bruce M. McEwen
Dr. McEwen coined the term "allostasis." It is a very useful concept to understand. Here is a video where he provides and introduction and a link to a paper with a more in depth discussion from 2000. The concept is very harmonious with how we approach the art of healing in TBM.
